    Safety or Common Sense First?

Swans can be agressive. But usually a smack of the paddle on the water is enough to send them on their way. It sounds like the guy had no PFD on and couldn't swim.

    Do I need a pirogue?

I've always said standing in a boat is 40% boat and 60% the person's sense of balance. The Swamp Girl or TV-32 will give you the best shot at that will keeping the build simple. Swamp girl will take a little more effort to draw the more-curved panels. But we're talking less than 15 minutes...

    Polyester resin...epoxy resin?

Go with whatever the plans say to do. The designer should have that all figured out already.

    Polyester resin...epoxy resin?

I guess I'm an epoxy "purist" because of its superior bond strength and forgiveness to error. Even with superb poly surface prep, epoxy will bond and seal better than poly. Thinning the resin won't get you as deep of penetration than if you heat the wood (leave it in the sun for a while before...

    Lapstrake ?

I've always like the lapstrake look. But it takes a lot of TLC if the exterior gets banged around because it's almost impossible to apply any fiberglass to the hull for protection. So wood quality becomes even more critical.

    Double barrel .45

The noise/report would be softened. How much decibel difference depends on the round and the quality of the suppressor. If you're using high caliber rounds that break the sound barrier, there's no way to silence that except using loads that don't break the sound barrier. But then range and...

Question on cooking Crawchie southern style

Growing up in WI, we did a few fish boils with the pot over an open fire out in the country where my grandparents lived. I seem to recall a simple solution if the water didn't keep boiling: 1 cup of lighter fluid. Might have been gasoline or even kerosene. I don't recall as I was like 8. But I...

    Naked Wine

How's the subject for an attention grabber? I'm making some from-scratch spaghetti sauce and it calls for red wine. I'm not a wine person. Back in 2003, I got the chance to go to Paris through the university I was attending. We got to go to a local vineyard to do some wine tasting. I...
