This is something that I am building several of -- two for my niece/nephew, and another for a friend ... The boat is a derivation of a design called the "Mouseboat", designed by Gavin Atkins. The original "Mouse" has a slight V bottom. The derivation I am building is called the "FlatsRat"...

I tie it down to both. The "body" of the pirogue is tied to the rack. At the stems, I have a small painter (circle of rope) attached to the boat. I loop a rope thru those and attach to the front and back of my truck. That way I have extra insurance holding the boat from shifting...

I love reading this stuff .... gets me fired up to do some of my own exploring of the rivers. There are some wonderful books on the paddling streams of Florida (can't remember the titles -- I'll get them and post later) with all kinds of good info. Hard for me to get the "away" time from wife...
