    Stratch Built Jon Boat

Where I am, trailers for this boat are on craigslist for $200 or less every week. Jbo

    Hennessy Hammocks

OK. Late update. I've made two Speer style hammocks this week. They are great. Will be ordering supplies soon to build a Hennessy clone. Since I can do it, I'll do the labor and save the $$$. Thanks for the help. Jbo

    fiberglass resin and fabric

The difference in cost is less and less these days. In my neck of the woods, I pay an extra $15 per gallon or so for epoxy of poly. That's an easy call for the difference in ease of use, strength, and longevity for me. - maybe $30 difference on a canoe. I'll pay it. Jbo

    Camp coffee

You can also use panty hose. I prefer new. Cut the legs off and each leg will make three or so bags. Measure your coffee. Tie off the ends and store them in a zip top bag while you travel. I use that method more for beer making, but it would work fine for coffee too. Jbo

    Camp coffee

I have a perc, but I'm about as happy dumping the grounds in the hot water and straining through my teeth or waiting until they've all sunk. Jbo

    Hennessy Hammocks

Thanks, Piper. That's the site that started me on this quest to make my own hammock. It's a goodern as 'bear might say. I'm ready with material, but I can't get my wife to slow down long enough to show me how to work the sewing machine. Jbo

    Hennessy Hammocks

Thanks 'jack. I bought the material today to build myself a clone of a Hennessy. The material will be too hot for a while here, but I'm not going camping any time soon. It was 101F here today 111 with the heat index. I ain't camping for a while right now. - at least not here. Thanks for...

    Hennessy Hammocks

Not much true winter camping in my repertoir - here winter only lasts from New Years until Jan 3, so you don't miss much anyway. I will spend some time camping in the 40s though. On the other end, I'm with bear. It's awfully hard to sleep when it's 90F at midnight. I tend to stay inside...

    More Stove Pics

Looking a little more at yours. Yours looks very similar to the SuperCat. Yours may be a little more effective due to more direct burners. Jbo

    More Stove Pics

Nice setup. I've made the Heineken stove and the SuperCat also. The Heineken stove works better and looks way cooler, but the SuperCat is simpler and more convenient to use. My "real" stove is a Coleman Max propane/butane, but I like the alcohol set-up for fun. Jbo

    Hennessy Hammocks

It'll be used 3 seasons for me. Somebody suggested I consider making my own for kicks. I found somebody who posted "plans" for his home made version of a HH and will likely try that too. Speaks to my need to know how to make things for myself - boats, stoves, food, etc. I told my son this...

    Hennessy Hammocks

All the pics I see with the rain fly in place look like they have no visibility outside the hammock. Is that right? Can you set it up so that you can see side to side or does that compromise the effectiveness of the rain protection? I'd really miss being able to see out. Jbo

    Hennessy Hammocks

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm in Albany, GA. I'll look for a dealer but I'd bet there isn't one near here. Maybe they have one I could demo at REI the next time I'm in Atlanta. I had been considering getting a one man tent for some minimalist canoe camping when I read the reviews on the...

    Hennessy Hammocks

Welcome to me(first post here). Reading your comments about the Hennessy Hammocks has gotten me interested in using one. However, I'm having trouble convincing myself to spend $200 to try something I may not like and it won't have much use outside of camping. I checked the website, but...
