Hey folks,
Thinking about using epoxy pigment on the outer hull of this new build. Can somebody give me an idea of what the stuff looks like after, say 3 coats of epoxy?Obviously depends on how much a person uses but I guess what I'm wondering is if it comes out looking more like a stain where you can see the wood thru it or more like a paint that covers the wood completely?

Thanks!
Brad

Thanks Chuck,
I'd seen those pictures before and thats what got me to thinking about it. Just can't tell for sure if it looks more like a dark stain type finish or more like paint?
Thanks again!

More like paint since it covers the wood tones as paint would do. I haven't tried it but a light application might work as a stain or just mess everything up.
I am thinking ... mess everything up.

Best to try it on a scrap piece of wood 1st.

Chuck.

Ok, sounds like it will end up looking like a painted surface. Is there any advantage to using epoxy pigments rather than just epoxy compatible paint? Only thing I can think of would be that it would maybe take deeper scratches before it started showing thru? Any other advantages or disadvantages?

I would think the paint would give better UV protection. UV breaks down epoxy over time. However, graphite in epoxy seems to give it pretty good UV resistance and I would presume that a good dose of pigment would be similar.
