I figured this would be the best place to post this........Since both of us are old but he was a lot older then me.

Pups was 14 , that is 98 in our years so he had me beat by 32 years. If I ever live that long then I may get to see how he felt. From what I have witnessed that may not be a good thing.

After a lot of soul searching and talking with the wife , not mention putting it off for a long time , we decided that he was just hurting to bad to keep him around for our selfish reasons and it would be a lot better to let him end his time with us , free of pain.

His hips were bothering him , he had trouble standing and then mussel spasms that would make him walk all bent over to one side in circles. Plus his vision was failing or fading fast.

Anyway after a lot of pain medication and joint medication and everything else we could do he just keep going down hill. So today we took him to the Doc and with one injection he ended his suffering and went to a better place and is pain free.

So all I can say is my best friend has left and is a lot better off.

I SURE WILL MISS HIM. :(

Aw, damn, Chuck! I really hate to hear this, you've mentioned Pups so many times I know he was one of the family and I know how much it hurts to lose a friend like that.

I always believe they will be waiting for us when it's our time and I look forward to seeing them again.

My condolences,
Mike

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

WE have lost two.

I think I know how much of a loss this is.

Man, I'm sorry. That is a hard, hard path to walk.

Got three dogs and a cat. Two of them are well up over ten years... It breaks my heart to think about the inevitable day that will come.

I don't know what any of us can say that will make it better but Lord knows a pet owner understands what you are talking about.

Hang in there.

Guy's Thanks for the good words and support and as any pet owner knows it is a hard thing to do but we owe them that for all there years of loyalty , companionship and just being themselves.
He was my 24 - 7 companion and loved sticking that cold nose against my leg to get my attention and let me know he was there. Especially when I was on the computer and he wanted one of his snacks. Or if I got a beer and went out on the back porch he was there begging for one ( or more ) of his snacks , I was taking a break and he was going to do the same. :D

I'd like to share.

We had Toby and Norman before we had kids. We got them when I was stationed at March AFB, CA in 1993. They moved with us to Travis AFB, CA and then to NC when I left the service. Took them dogs everywhere with us. They weren't pets. They were family.

Toby lived until he was 14 and Norm made it until has was 16. We really should have let Norm go when he was about 15.5 but like you said... selfish desires.

Norman going was hard but we knew it was coming. When Toby went before him, man that just gutted me. It wasn't expected and $5000 of surgery could have saved him but not the same quality of life. I was down about him for weeks. Our vet even lost it and alomst had to have the tech complete the injection because she knew our dogs and how much they meant to us. I swore I did not want another. The pain was too much.

But... after holding out for a couple months, the wife went to the local animal shelter on a whim. She was in the play room when I half-chow, half-sheppard runt came up to her, licked her, and laid in her lap. She called me crying because it was a smaller version of Toby (Norman still alive at the time). She showed some unbelievable restraint and left without him. That was a Monday. She talked about him for days and visited him again. Then she broke me and I bought him over the phone, site-unseen while at work. I called her and told her Barney was no longer available. She got choked up but understood someone would scope up such a great dog. Told her to pick him up on the way home Friday. :)

He brought life back to Norm for a while but then Norm passed. I held out for a whole year year refusing to get another. But now my daughter has her own beagle.

It's a cycle that hurts at the end but is pure joy while it lasts. Time will heal the hurt. and before you know it, you might have a new friend.

Sorry for your loss Chuck... I know how you felt about him. Looks much like my Daugters pup who we lost about 3 years ago. His name was Gus but I called him Buck. I pup sat him on long periods very frequently. He rode in my truck right beside me. He slept on the rug right beside me. He took long walks and romps with me. I still have a picture to remind me of the good times. Felt like he was my own. It's no wonder Dog is God spelled backwards.... He sure created us some fine companions......Too bad people can't be as nice, friendly, and loyal as a good ole Dog.....
