Looking better.

I think these might work.

Ended up cutting about 70 strips. Probably about 45-50 are useable. Out of the rest I can cut shorter lengths. Not bad for free redwood.

These were all 2x4. Still have about 20 2x6 between 10 and 16 feet long. Still need to buy some cedar and pine to do some different patterns with. All of this wood came from an old deck that was torn down

I got all the routering done today and started installing the strips. I'm sorry but I was happy to be actually putting wood on the boat and forgot the camera till the end. Everything is going well, but I have a long way togo. Not hard to work with just tedious.

gbinga,
Thanks I also think its going to be special. I am not going to rush this one. I have a great boat to paddle now so I'm not in a big hurry on this one.

One thing if I may.

Keep a pan of water with a rag handy and wipe down all of the glue drips after each strip is added.

You won't regret it.

That is gonna be one sweet boat.

P.S. If possible, could we get a pic of the stem construction ?

It's probably a moot point, if you cover the craft with glass, but Titebond II isn't certified for use beneath the water line. Also, joints made up with Titebond II had been known to fail completely in below freezing conditions.
I am guessing that the adhesive is just to hold everything true until the glass is applied. After that, it would make absolutely no difference what glue was used.

Titebond III is much, much "Mo' Betta". Nice long open time, decent grab, waterproof, heat resistant, freeze resistant and easy clean up.
For most purposes, the ideal glue.
The only glue I use more of is polyurethane. It has it's own set of problems, like appearance, squeeze out, and clean up.

I got a little more done today. It seems to be going well although slow. I am coming into the twists and bends of the hull now and its getting pretty tough to position the strips. thanks for the advice Gerald. They sure are'nt pretty until the nails are pulled and the hull is cleaned-up and sanded.

If I listen real close I hear it calling me now. :D But its Fri. night and lines tend to start getting crooked after a beverage or ten.

Ok, I am back working on the Freedom. I was not happy with the Bead and Cove method.I worked fine on flat surfaces but did not look good on rounded surfaces. I got intouch with a man who builds marathon boats that lives close to me and he taught me how to bevel the strips. So far it has worked really well. Its easier and faster than the B&C method in my opinion. I will post some pics tonight.

Finished stripping the hull tonight/morning. It has turned out pretty well so far. have some gaps to fill but nothing major. I will begin sanding later today. I am satisfied with the results so far. The lines of the boat turned out really well, but I took a long time to set the first strip and that is the most important. I think once the hull is sanded and a little filler applied it will look nice. I better get some sleep I have about 2,000 brads to pull out of the hull. :D
I was within 1/16 inch on the last two strips so I guess everything is pretty even.
