    Red Fez Club, Lamar, SC

Thought you folks might enjoy a few photos of one of my favorite paddlin' locations. It's a large mill pond/lake at the Red Fez Cabin in Lamar, SC. Great fishing spot as well. The lake is a large open expense of water bordered on 3 sides by cyprus swamp. Never too many people there and it's...

    Tied-on bow and stern lines

:D On my boat I simply extended the stem and bow and carved them into permanent tie-on locations. I've tied a few stout pieces of rope for handholds, but when I go out I tie on a thirty foot strand of the same. This has worked well for me. Happy Paddlin'

    electic motors without transom?

What do you think? Like most of you I enjoy paddlin' my boat, but sometimes it would be great to hook on a little trolling motor and take it easy. Since I made my boat without a transom I'm tryin' to think of a good way to attach the motor. Maybe, some sort of yoke that saddles the back...

How do I paddle this thing?

Makin it move! 8) My advice for paddling is 1) take the wide end of whatever you have handy( a stick, a paddle, your hand) stick it in the water and wiggle it around until the shore starts moving beside you. 2) sit as low in the boat as you can and still see over the side. 3) sit just...

    The Value of cheap lumber!

 One more thought........ Most people think of pine (construction lumber) as "cheap wood" with little intrinsic value. Not so. Pine is one of the most stable woods. That's why they use pine for instrument molds. The problem is that construction lumber is usually quite wet, dried...

    Two Dollar Paddles

:D Thought I'd post two paddles I carved out of 2 x 4, and 2 x 6 construction lumber. Actually I used left over wood so I didn't have to pay a cent, and I finished with left over spar urethane. The first is a pretty standard single blade paddle from 2 x 6 lumber. No laminations, no...

    J-stroke effective in a pirogue?

What????? :? I'm afraid I don't know one stroke from another. And I also have to fess up that I have no wealth of experience, but what I can say is that my pirogue is the easiest boat I've ever paddled. My strategy is go with the flow, with as little effort as is required to get you from...

    Launch Day

Finally got my pirogue in the water :!: :D She moves smooth as glass through the water, even with my brother, myself and gear as payload (450+ lbs). I really wanted a boat, not longer then 16', that would easily car-top and carry two adults. I held my breath until I tried her out, and wow...

    Finally finished my second pirogue!

Jonsboat :D I started with the Jonsboat plans, but like everything else, I couldn't leave well enough alone. I had to pinch in the nose a bit and fiddle with the details. Nice boat for a boat you can't paddle! Hey I like to eat fish, and I still prefer my pirogue. Helps me sneak up on...

    Finally finished my second pirogue!

Finally finished my second pirogue, made just the way I wanted. I can't wait to get her in the water!!!! I'm caring for my mother who recently was in a car accident (she'll be ok) so I have to be patient for another week or two! Thanks again to all you folks who gave me suggections on...

To keel or not to keel.

:?: Finally got my new pirogue under way! All the design suggestions you guys gave me have been working out perfectly (widened the bottom several inches, reduced the rocker and raised the sides a bit) . I think I'll end up with a pirogue that can safely carry two adults. When it's all...

    Repairing bubbles in ply?

bubble update :D Just a quick update...... I'm almost finished repairing the bubbles in my boat. Each of the bubbles I cut into seemed to be around a void in the second ply layer. I didn't discover any rot once I cut inside. Sooooooo..... at each location I cut out a football shaped...

    Repairing bubbles in ply?

:?: Not long after building my first boat I found several bubbles forming where the ply partially delaminated. The bubbles were only on one side panel of the boat. I used standard BC exterior ply which I epoxied, taped and then applied numerous coats of exterior paint. As they didn't...
