This past weekend a group of us met at Colleton State Park just north of Walterboro, South Carolina. The weather was cool but great for sitting around the campfire at night and warm enough for T shirts and long pants paddling on the Edisto during the day. We made two day trips and rounded up the...
Paddle length
My favorite paddle is 6 foot 6 inches, just half a foot over my head. Of course I use it while paddling standing up. Good luck with the paddle, I have made several all lengths to see what works for me and have found I am pretty comfortable with them all. Anything you make...
Suwanee River
With the current running as hard as it was we opted to do a short hike and check out the park by land to get to the shoals. The water level was 56.5 feet which includes about 48 foot of elevation so the water level was definitely high enough to run the shoals. We were treated by a...

Colleton State Park on the Edisto River
We like staying at the Colleton State Park just north of Walterboro, SC. It's a very small park but in the winter isn't very busy and very congenial to it's guest. It is located on the Edisto River and is some of the nicest blackwater paddling in the...
Well it's been two weeks since I bought a new Wenonah Rendevous and I had not had a chance to get it wet. Today I got a shuttle up to the Trestles at I 16 and dumped it in the water. Took Gator Dog along and the flyrod and was determined not to work up a sweat paddling down to the takeout at Hwy...
Flamingos
These ones are just resting up. We use them every year to pull Santa's Sleigh on the roof. Rudy the Red Nosed Flamingo even has a lit nose...... We ain't strange...... Just Different......
Thinning Epoxy
I know I've seen it on the forum before but do you thin epoxy with acetone and how much should I thin it to get best saturation on the paddle before glassing it. I know the glass will add more than enough strength but I also want to stregthen the handle as well.
Here we go again. While waiting for the workers to complete drywalling my den I needed something to do so why not another paddle. May get to do some light Whitewater paddling so I thought I'd better have a paddle....
Used Cedar and Poplar from Lowes.
Is it true you hang flamingos by...
Bent Shaft Paddle
Wouldn't happen to have liked the ZRE you borrowed? That's how I got hooked! I was told 4 inches shorter but I usually make do with whatever length I can get, guess I'm not an expert........
More Pictures of the Trip
Just wanted to add a few pictures that I took..... Excellent trip with great people!
This is at the put in (Dasher's on Hwy 80) waiting for the crew to get back from the shuttle
Taking one of many breaks.

Excited about camping
Got so excited I forgot to mention how much we enjoyed paddling with you! You're definitely welcome anytime and if folks up north are as great as you we'll be glad to have them down. Maybe even do a Shrimp Boil or Fry a Turkey for em.....
Great Pictures, will add a few...
Camping on the Edisto River in November
We do a yearly trip up to the Edisto river and camp at Colleton State Park, SC. We do day trips out from the park and do some fine eating while there. We are planning on camping from the 9th to the 11th of Nov and anyone that would like to join us are...
Camping on the Ogeechee
We can definitely set up something for camping. The only problem I could forsee with the spring is we usually have higher water and that eliminates the sandbars. We usually head down to the Suwannee during that period for river camping. Anytime the water is down we have...
Best of Luck to you
After bypass surgery at 42 (6 blockages) and 5 Stent placements in the past 4 years I can relate to some of your anxiety. Trust in your doc, you're old enough that he'll tell you what's what..... Got a stress test to go to today but don't anticipate a problem. Only good...
Transfer of Patterns
I did have to find some carbon paper, almost impossible with the computer age and copiers. Just lay the pattern on top and use a ball point pen, the kind with a roller so it doesn't tear the pattern. Either that or put the board in your printer and hit Print :twisted...
Very Nice work. How do you transfer a pattern for something like that? I am terrible at freehanding anything other than a crooked line. Just started burning a few flamingos on my new paddles but haven't done any burning since I was a teenager and that was a few years ago.....
