    Break Dancin'.

jimsong, Thanks for sharing that story. I think that its through our memories of those who have gone before us, that we truly learn who we have become as individuals. Its been a lot fewer years since my old man went on to visit with the "Spirit in the Sky." But, I see things that remind me...

    north and south potato salad

Never heard of a mayonaise referred to as ice-cream, but heck I ain't been 'round for too long. Now, take that southern tater salad recipe and add a Luzianna touch, boil your taters with a tiny bit of liquid crabboil (I prefer Zatarain's). Or, use the ones you got left over after a crawfish...

    REAL breakfast, the southern way

I can feel my arteries clogging just looking at the picture. Darn it now my mouth is watering . Guess I'm gonna have to hit the cafeteria here in a second just to stop the stomach from growling.

    Bayou Lafourch Paddle Club

This be the same recipe for rice me Mom taught me (2:1) works everytime. Now, if I'm cooking a jambalaya completely from scratch I debone the chicken first. Then use dem bones to make a stock. That stock gets strained and used as the liquid to cook the rice.

If you could buy only 1 sander???

rpecot, helps me to know that Home Depot & Lowes don't carry 'em down there in your neck of the woods. If they ain't there then I know my home improvement store won't have them. Now, I'll have to check out the old fashioned hardware store in town (geezer's paradise regardless of age). But it...

If you could buy only 1 sander???

Hey Mick, preciate that suggestion and will give it a look see. Though I much prefer eatin ducks guts than using 'em as a potential tool. Drivin' home yesterday noticed that one of the local lumber yard/hardware stores is running a tax free sale this weekend. Gonna stop by there this...

If you could buy only 1 sander???

Ok, got to looking at the financial situation and discovered that I'm getting an increase in the ole monthly allowance (extra assignment at work that means extra pay, but no real extra work). So my first build will get to be done "right" plus I can set myself up for future builds (already got...

    My first build and questions...

Well, got the plans last night via email and have been reading over them and started trying to plan my course of attack. Before I go any further, I'll apologize (shoulda at the get go) but I tend to get a bit wordy and will probably have more questions than a 4 year old hyped up on pixie...

    My first build and questions...

Not so sure about the good guy thing. Afterall, I enjoy eating my grits, love the smell of sawdust (probably will enjoy epoxy as well), and have gotten all of the puns on this forum so far. Hey, figured I might as well join the idiocracy and build my own craft.

    My first build and questions...

Hey Mick, I've been on the dark side for a long time, just stuck in a state of limbo where could not justify building. Still can't really, but I just gots to get back on the water and my little 10 ft plastic folding canoe ain't gonna cut it no more. As I just posted over on the JEM...

    My first build and questions...

Wow...must say I've watched from a distance for awhile, but the support and advise you guys give around here is amazing. When I posted initially it was just to say "I'm here, and may come to ya with questions." Never expected the welcoming I've gotten on the forum plus a couple of back channel...

    My first build and questions...

Thanks Kayak Jack, Being a youngster (30 years dumb; starting the growth into a wise old geezer) I sometimes forget that handtools used to be used to build everything.

    My first build and questions...

Wow, thanks Ozark for that info...Will certainly have to think about that. Somewhere out there I came across the measurements and steps for cutting and building stems and rib pieces, gave thought to building these myself, and could easily do so, only don't have all of the necessary tools...

    My first build and questions...

Wow, that was quick. Slow day at work, just stepped away to another cup of coffee, come back & 2 replies... Cypress, thanks for the offers and when if trouble hits, may reach out for a bit-o' free assistance. Ozark, you are correct on this 1st build being a pirogue. After reading...

    My first build and questions...

No questions now, just starting a thread that will follow my first build and serve as a place for me to ask a question or two along the way. Now a bit of background. 'Bout 4 years ago came across this site and Matt's and got to thinkin' I wanted to build, but the old pocket book always said...

The Wood is the Filling , Not the boat.

This is an excellent thread and one that has gotten me motivated to actually build, instead of just thinking about it. I have been reading these forums for probably 3-4 years, but have not brought myself to build due to financial reasons. But after reading this thread, I realize the my desire...
