Mornin';
Sorry to hear about your health, my( "...brother,.."). Real nice Pirogue. Wanting to start 02 Pirogues myself. Want to build 'em for my Grandsons. Lookin' to make one about 14' or 15' for the youngest and me to paddle, and a skinnier 12' for the older Grandson. Hoping to be able to store the 12' nestled in the 14'. ...any how, awesome boat as usual mate. You do awesome work.

Thanks guys,

'Twas just a 'warning' :D Seems I have been getting a little too excited lately and that there is a sticky valve somewhere. The harder I work it, the less well it works.

Oh yeah the sawbones told me to give up smoking too before he will fix the valve. That is a bloody huge ask for someone like me - a 50 a day man for most of my life.

Mick, my Friend, take the doc's advice. Save some money.

Otherwise, smoking cures cancer.

I have three, that is THREE of those nut's telling me to stop smoking or it will kill me ...... I have news for them ... It already did back in 93. Big deal I am still here. I Think.

The smoking was not what did me in ... that was relaxing, the thing that did me in was working in the criminal justice field with a bunch of idiots and being married to the wife for 84 years (anyway it fells like that long but just a short 42 years) I got rid of the work and still have the wife ......... Never said I was smart.

I like to build boats and then paddle them, ( That is relaxing) something she does not like. On the up side she is gone to her work when I get up and when she gets home I have supper cooked and after that I hit the sack ....... My quiet time .... But not for the neighborhood if it is nice out and my bedroom window is open.

Yep separate bedrooms ..... The best thing an old married guy can ask for...( I can ask for)...... Now if I could just get pups to stop snoring.
He does a good job of keeping the dust off the floor, might be why he snores so much.....A-Choooo.

The smoking is the 1st thing to go...I have done it (stopped) at lease 100 times ....This time it will be for good .. :)

We don't last forever but the boats we build and the information about how to do it does.
1055.gif
So we have to around to give that advise and build those boats.

Speaking of that .... I have a few more things to pack and then I am out of here for a while ....camping and having some fun.. Who knows I might regress , get a case of the stupids and actually come home.

OK... On the serious side.......

Everyone stops smoking at some time .... either voluntarily or when pushing daisies up while 6 feet under them

Smoking is relaxing, it calms the nerves, Very addictive, Hard to stop, Costs a lot, Wrecks your sense of smell, Taste buds ... so everything tastes the same (something in my favor when the wife cooks something).

Pollutes the air and the person who is puffing on them, Litters the landscape with the empty packs, Starts forest fires when tossed from a vehicle, The ashes from them burn holes in your shirts, the vehicles seats and even at times causes wrecks trying to put the fire out in your crotch or seat if you are lucky.

They burn holes in the tent floor ... if you are not careful....... Drop ashes in the supper you are cooking, burn your lip if you puff to the end ..... Smell like Chit when you light the filter by mistake......

Then they constrict your blood vessels making the Heart work harder, and just pump a lot of poisons into your body with each puff.

Yep ..... I am a smoker and I know that is what is happening to me, my shirts, slacks, car seats and my lungs, my body ........ Never said I was smart ...... One of these days I will wake up.

But it is legal and everyone said back in the 60's it is a cool thing to do...... No one ever said anything about the disadvantages.....

Chuck.

Mick sorry to hear about your health problem , seems like we all got problems slowing us down as far a paddling and other things we like doing ,

Mine isn't near as serious , just annoying , went to the doctor about my shoulder playing up and causing me a lot of pain , he reckons that it's pretty worn and I've done too much tendon and ligament damage over the years and at my age I'm just not going to heal all that well any more , I was a bit put out and asked him what he meant about , " at my age " as I am only 49 , he said that was middle age and I had to expect that if I screwed too many things up in my body when I was young I was going to have to pay for it when I was older ,
He also said that my life style and basic nature was against me as I wouldn't stay still long enough to heal properly and a case in point was the fact that I've got a stuffed back and should only be doing light work if any and instead decided to build a large block house by my self , he reckons that it's not my body he should be examining it's my head , [ he may be right , my back and neck have been out for the last few weeks and pressing on a nerve causing a lot of pain and severe headaches , been on some serious doses of codeine so I could keep working ] , so I asked him if I did take it easy for a few months after I finish the house how long it would be before I could start paddling again properly , he said that being realistic my shoulder probably wouldn't ever be good enough again to paddle more than a kilometre or so unless it was current assisted and even then I'd probably need strong pain killers and I should think about getting a motor for my canoe or buy a bigger boat and motor , helpful bugger wasn't he ? but I haven't given up and still intend to keep paddling but will have to take it easy for a while and intend to get a electric motor for the canoe short term , well at least I intend to do that as soon as the house is finished and I have time to get out in the canoes and boats

G'day Dave.

We gotta expect a few little hiccups at "our age" but the bloody doctor hasn't gotta rub out noses in it. I would have wanted to slap him for a comment like that. bloody hide of the bugger!

My standard opening remark every time I see the doctor or dentist is "We're not going to hurt each other now, are we?" Try it sometime mate & see the reaction you get.   The Aussie nurse kacked her self laughing in A&E the other day when I said to the little arab intern who saw me first. :D. I think he was glad to see the last of me when they shipped me out to Hervey Bay. :D

Getting old ain't for sissies. You guys are tougher'n me. I honor you.

Mick, your punch line has a joke in front of it. Seems a lady was afraid of a dentist. After a long series of talks, she finally consented to get in the chair. As he edged closer to administer the anesthetic shot in her gum - he suddenly froze, then stood up straight.

"Madam, you seem to have a strong hold on my scrotum!"

"Yes, Doctor. And we're not going to hurt each other - are we." (It wasn't a question)

Mick / Jack

My doctor is south African and has developed abrupt to a art form , he doesn't tend to pull any punches , the fact he's only in his late 20's or early 30's probably helps him to think of me as being old , he keeps telling me that I need to hire some one to do the physically demanding jobs with the house building , that isn't a option as I just plain can't afford it , my wife asked him what I could do about the dizziness I get when I've been working kneeling down and then stand up , some times I black out from it for a few seconds which was a little hairy last week when I was screwing down the roof of the carport , his answer was to tell me not to be silly and not to get up on roofs in the first place and that I had to realise that I just wasn't physically up to doing jobs like that , my reply was that I had no choice and was there any thing I could do to alleviate the problem as I was soon going to have to lay all the tiles on the floor of the house and veranda , which is some thing like 305 square metres [ 364 sq yards to those in the USA ] , he just looked horrified and said I wouldn't be able to do it , but I have no choice so I'll just have to do it , I think that one of the problems with doctors is that most of them have only ever seen physical work and haven't really experienced it , they are generally all too quick to tell you that you won't be able to do some thing , that is not counting Government doctors , they are totally different , when I was 30 I was sent to a back specialist and he did a series of x-rays and had a full examination and the specialist told me that I'd have to give up work and that I'd be in a wheel chair by the time I was 35 , he wanted me to go onto a invalid pension , the government doctor didn't even look at the x-rays I took in for the appointment or read the letter from the specialist or check me over , he just pronounced me fit for work because I was able to walk into his office unassisted and that was the end of it , 10 years later I was sent to a specialist again and they run all the x-rays again and again I was told that I'd end up in a wheel chair , this time by the time I was 45 , I'm already well past that and I'm determined that I won't end up in a wheel chair , I can't say that putting my back out several times a week doesn't worry me and on the odd occasion when I pinch a nerve in it and end up paralysed from the waist down for a few minutes tends to be unsettling but I really have no choice in the matter , you either lay down and take it or just keep doing what you want to do

G'day Dave,

Our family doctor is Sarth Efrican too. A good bloke who goes straight to the mark. Classic Boer stock and will make one damn good Aussie ja? :D

I am too old and way too mean to listen to these little arab poonces who have never done anything physical in their lives tell me what I can't do. had I been prepared to do that - and stay on the BS medication the clown had me on after my first heart attack years ago, I would still be on my back most of the time, just waiting to die.

Bugger that, I WILL NOT GO OUT GRACEFULLY. One of the very learned Bear's famous quotes spings to mind and I think it is appropriate here at this time. :D

"Life's journey is not to arrive at your
grave safely in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in arse backwards and
sideways, totally worn out, shouting.....
'"...holy sh!t...what a ride...!"'

Guys, Australia is drastically short on doctors, particularly so in the regional areas. We have resorted to importing foriegn trained doctors, mainly from the arab states, India & Pakistan. Most have limited english and many have questionable qualifications/skills.

If any here are medically qualified and getting itchy feet, or feel like a change of pace/scenery. I would urge you to consider coming over. Any hospital or medical practice here will welcome you with open arms. you could littorally, arrive here one day and be working the next.[/quote]

Personally I've always been fond of the Quote from Robin Williams [ Mork ] " Joke them if they can't take a F#&k "

Another thing we seriously need is dentists , it's a real pain having to wait 12 months to see a dentist once you leave the big cities
