I think they treat it different down after the arsenic scare came out a few years ago. Not sure about the oils in the wood and using epoxy.
I only used the treated wood on my rub rails and did not use any epoxy on them, just varnish.
cctyer---To me the boat handles great and it is alot faster than my sit-on top kayak and to me just as stable.
Mine ways 50lbs which may be a little heavy but that little extra weight helps in stability I would imagine.

FlaMike if I was going to put a keel on my boat I would by a 16' pressure treated 2x4 and rip it down to the size I needed. Alot cheaper than buying 16' molding and you get the benefit of the wood being treated.
Yeah the run was up a little but man the place has really been trashed by the swimmers and airboats that go up in there.
I was going to go to Alexander run but there are more places to get out at Juniper.
Might take it back out this evening for some Panfish fishing :D

No seriously the boat did great and paddle just fine. I took it to Juniper Run and paddle down stream about a mile or so and then turned around. Of course go down stream was a breeze and coming back wasn't to bad...

OldYaker---The plywood came from my local Home Depot and is just the Luan stuff with Exterior grade glue.
I guess it only took me 9 days because I worked on it day and night during that time. I tried to use the time wisely, like if I was waiting for epoxy to cure then I would be working on...
Finished my UJ Pirogue 7-24-07 and it took me about about 9 days to complete it.
Will take it out in a couple of days for a spin...
The boat weighs 50lbs and is 15'4" on top.
