Dang , I am glad you said that Bear , here is a picture of me putting some stuff in my tent the day before I spent a couple of days going down the Econ and filming it. I filmed the river from the 1st place you can put in ( Highway 50 Outpost ) , all the way to the end of the Econ , St Johns River. 1998.
If you will notice the hat , a Resistol , made in Texas , four X beaver and it is a very nice shade of chocolate brown.

DADTENT.JPG

The tent is a Moss , Stargazer and is quite roomy and very comfortable.

Now I get it! The bigger the brim and browner on the hat....the bigger the BS'er! That was easy! Is there anything bigger than a stetson 4X chocolate beaver whatever full brim hat?

My mistake , I corrected it in my post , It is a Resistol , Made in Texas by Texans. The Stetson I have is a straw for summer time wear and is tan with a wide brim.

My guess is that Bear did like Jack and used all the money he saved by not having to purchase a razor or razor blades and shaving cream.

Men wear Akubra hats, from Australia. Those dinky Stetsons are OK for ice cream socials, church, political rallies, whore houses, and such.

Resistol sounds like either a socialist political policy, or a bug spray. Tilley hats are a cult, even if Verlen Kruger did wear one. Now, many Michigan paddlers wear them just because.

Some folks shop for things from over the pond and real men /sportsmen/ranchers , outdoors men shop locally for the ones that won the west , concored and solidified our nation. Made in America by Americans for Americans , mostly Texans but we let the rest claim credit also. Heck we even let them wear them , providing they can afford such a good hat , if they can't then they get a cheep substitute for it. They are just want to bee's.

Ya can't beat the original , no way , no now , plus ( Did I say ) they are made in America. :D Jack you do know that Australia was originally used as a correction facility by England as a place to send the rejects from England since America was already full of them and revolting against the crown. They sure did not want to send us reinforcements.

Call a Stetson or a Resistol Dinky again ( That makes a Texans blood boil) and I will use my hat to slap your back teeth all the way down to where the sun never shines and you will be able to eat a salad or your supper by sitting on it. Just think of all the silverware and dishes you would never have to wash again.   Dang , there I go doing Jack a favor again and not knowing it.

Sorry folks , I am usually mild mannered and just shrug things off but insulting a Stetson or Resistol ( Made in Texas ) Hat deserves capital punishment in my book. Even if it is a friend that said it and had no idea of what he was saying or would cause.

Yankees , what do they know about anything good. They live up north ( Nuff said right there) then drive on roads full of holes and think it is great they even go camping in frigid weather where polar bears are looking for a motel room in. My guess is they are trying to save on the cost of Right Guard so they can get a cloned ( Impostor) hat to wear. Like Bear said ... $1.50 for his and he was overcharged.

Chuck.
I think the brown stuff is going to hit the fan now and I ain't talking about the unsliced Rye bread. "O" Well it has been to quiet on here , anyway.

I got my eye out fer a top hat. Didnt Lee Marvin wear one once? One of the Arkansaw paddlers wears a rubber chicken on hiz head.

We already wore some double bubble toil 'n truble [witch] hats down the Nantahala. That wuz the last time a group had big fun runnin' the river....cept fer that time we took Hershel the CPR dummy down in the front of Dave's canoe. It iz sad when the best hat in the group iz gatormac's $1.25 cowboy hat he bought off a drunk Mexican in Juarez.

What thread iz this? Why am I gittin' radio waves bouncin' off Swampy's collander? Why iz paddlin' so dang serius?

Thank goodness the red breasted nuthatch showed up today. Mitey fine bird. Mebbe Miz Bear will take some pichurs?

BTW...my son-in-law is Texan, he ain't in Texas either. Jeez it's fun pok'n a stick into a pile of crap and stirring it around!

Jack you do know that Australia was originally used as a correction facility by England as a place to send the rejects from England

Still is mate from what I just heard. Checking my facts. Soon as I can count on the truth of the rumour I just heard will post it here.

It seems two criminals, convicted of child torture and murder in England have been given new identities by mother England and shipped out to the colonies where they are now enjoying the freedom.

If I can manage to confirm this, will post much more on it. To say I am pissed would be an understatement.

Bear was right about being
able to buy anything in theCanton flea market. Many years ago I was visiting my sister and bother in law (that is not mispelled) in East Texas and we ran across a guy that had a young Couger on a rope in his front yard. Said he got it in Canton. Don't know what ever happened to the Couger or the mans children.
Thought about getting me one of those Viet Nam type hats to keep the sun off my tender young skin but figgered that if I put one on I'd probally have to shoot myself.

Bob, Is that the flea market I seen on TV a year or so ago that runs like for miles along the road? I couldn't believe the length of it. Can't remember if it was in Texas. My garage would fill up again if I lived near it!

Yak,
My wife goes up there once or twice a year. No way you can do the whole thing in one day. She used to take my truck up there until I messed up and got her a minivan. Now she takes the rear seat out before going.

I've had hats from a lot of sources. I really wanted a Stetson. Got it, realized it wasn't but only a little bit better than a common hardware stuff.

At Vung Tau, an Aussie gave me my first Akubra. It resisted rain for over an hour before it wet through. Wore for about 25 years. A real fan the fire water the dog hat.

Lot's of folks like Stetsons, Tilleys, etc. Experience taught me what to avoid and what to get, and I stick with it.

A Stetson is like a chevy can go from a s10 to a 4500 diesel they come from small to nearly as big as a sombrero and in grades from what you are talking about to the top line don't get no better hats.
I normally am not a hat person But always wear one hunting , for years that was a canvas Aussie bush hat knock off I got in Qhin Yon I finaly
lost it (divorce) now have a hat I bought in taos NM sort of a crocodile dundee hat it is excellent but the brim isn't wide enough.
I also have a problem with folks and hats , when we bought the hat Sondras Ideal I told here I had to be careful about where I wore it. she just laughed at me so at the next restaurant we stopped at told her to watch the guys in there as I walked in you could see them start to bow up without a hat no problem Guess just look like a smart a@#@# in one
