I filmed the river from the 1st place you can put in ( Highway 50 Outpost ) , all the way to the end of the Econ , St Johns River. 1998.
If you will notice the hat , a Resistol , made in Texas , four X beaver and it is a very nice shade of chocolate brown.
The tent is a Moss , Stargazer and is quite roomy and very comfortable.

Men wear Akubra hats, from Australia. Those dinky Stetsons are OK for ice cream socials, church, political rallies, whore houses, and such.
Resistol sounds like either a socialist political policy, or a bug spray. Tilley hats are a cult, even if Verlen Kruger did wear one. Now, many Michigan paddlers wear them just because.

OH MY GOODNESS! I have got to go on a trip with you guys! It has to be what I call B.S. nirvana. I will bow to the masters in hopes of achieving this higher level someday. I have a brown wide brim hat as well as a green one. no Akubra yet. Someday, Maybe! :wink:

Sorry folks , I am usually mild mannered and just shrug things off but insulting a Stetson or Resistol ( Made in Texas ) Hat deserves capital punishment in my book. Even if it is a friend that said it and had no idea of what he was saying or would cause.
Yankees , what do they know about anything good. They live up north ( Nuff said right there) then drive on roads full of holes and think it is great they even go camping in frigid weather where polar bears are looking for a motel room in. We have a lot of Texans here bragg'n about Texas. Some are even good friends of mine. I notice they are from Texas....and not in Texas. Still is mate from what I just heard. Checking my facts. Soon as I can count on the truth of the rumour I just heard will post it here.
It seems two criminals, convicted of child torture and murder in England have been given new identities by mother England and shipped out to the colonies where they are now enjoying the freedom.

Many years ago I was visiting my sister and bother in law (that is not mispelled) in East Texas and we ran across a guy that had a young Couger on a rope in his front yard. Said he got it in Canton. Don't know what ever happened to the Couger or the mans children.
Thought about getting me one of those Viet Nam type hats to keep the sun off my tender young skin but figgered that if I put one on I'd probally have to shoot myself.

I've had hats from a lot of sources. I really wanted a Stetson. Got it, realized it wasn't but only a little bit better than a common hardware stuff.
At Vung Tau, an Aussie gave me my first Akubra. It resisted rain for over an hour before it wet through. Wore for about 25 years. A real fan the fire water the dog hat.
Lot's of folks like Stetsons, Tilleys, etc. Experience taught me what to avoid and what to get, and I stick with it.

A Stetson is like a chevy can go from a s10 to a 4500 diesel they come from small to nearly as big as a sombrero and in grades from what you are talking about to the top line don't get no better hats.
I normally am not a hat person But always wear one hunting , for years that was a canvas Aussie bush hat knock off I got in Qhin Yon I finaly
lost it (divorce) now have a hat I bought in taos NM sort of a crocodile dundee hat it is excellent but the brim isn't wide enough.
I also have a problem with folks and hats , when we bought the hat Sondras Ideal I told here I had to be careful about where I wore it. she just laughed at me so at the next restaurant we stopped at told her to watch the guys in there as I walked in you could see them start to bow up without a hat no problem Guess just look like a smart a@#@# in one
